NLQ is the abbreviation for (Near Letter Quality). This function could be activated by a button on a dot-matrix printer to achieve a particularly good typeface when printing. Each line of the printer was printed several times on top of each other. However, the printing process is very long.

With 24-needle (pins) printers this function is called LQ (for Letter Quality) because of the better print quality.
