Parker Brothers was a famous manufacturer of board games. It was founded in Salem, Massachusetts in 1883 under the name George S. Parker Company. Only with the entry of the founder's brother, in 1888, was the name changed to Parker Brothers.

Parker Brothers biggest success was Monopoly. Developed and refined by others from 1903 onwards, including, paradoxically, through the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and its aftermath, Parker Brothers acquired the copyright and released the game at the end of 1935.

In 1991, Parker Brothers was bought by Hasbro and only continued with the company name.

Video games[edit | edit source]

At the start of the 80s, Parker Brothers expanded to the video game sector. Several titles were licensed and published on most of the consoles and computers of the time. In 1984, Parker Brothers completely gave up the video game business due to the video game crash.
