PC

The shortage PC is used in the broader sense for Personal Computer. In the 80s also some home computers were provided with this shortage as e.g. newer versions of the C64.

In a narrower sense the shortage PC describes a computer system, which was first built by IBM in the 70s and is based on a micro processor (CPU) by Intel as the 8086/8088 (XT models) or AT models with 80286 (286s), 80386 (386s), 80486 (486s) or 80586 (Pentium versions).
Also these micro processors of the AT models can be produced in licence of the processor manufacturers AMD, Cyrix or IBM. Since Pentium AMD goes its own ways and successfully produces its own micro processors for PC computer systems, it is under the use of the Intel licence. The rights for the 32bit CPU architecture are possessed by Intel, the rights for the 64bit CPU architecture are possessed by AMD and Intel, whereby the AMD licence is used.

Commodore also produced in the 70s until the beginning of the 90s own PCs on the basis of Intel micro processors, which were sold unter the names PET, CBMxxxx (e.g. CBM 2000), or PCxx (e.g. PC10). Commodore-PCs on the basis of AMD processors are the laptop and desktop series Commodore-LT.
