[edit] Desription

"The era and time of this story is unknown. After the mothership "Arkanoid" was destroyed, a spacecraft "Vaus" scrambled away from it, but only to be trapped in space by someone..."

One of the most famous Breakout-Clone, where an energy beam has to destroy bricks. The player controls a spaceship named "Vaus" and has to try to redirect the beam with his spaceship to stay in the game. Furthermore, there are adversarial aliens and bricks which are easier oder harder to destroy.

There are 32 levels with a conclusive boss enemy ("Dimension Changer") as level 33. This enemy must be destroyed, to "revive" the mothership Arkanoid through a time travel.

[edit] Design

The direction of playing is from bottom to top on a static game area. The spaceship can only be moved horizontally and the rebounce angle of the energy beam depends on the point where the beam hits the spaceship. The extras are distinguishable by colour and letters, the aliens are properly animated.

[edit] Operation

There are various options for the operation: paddles, mouse, joystick and keyboard. With the mouse and the paddles the bat is distinctly better to control than with the keyboard or the joystick, hence with VICE you should use the CBM mouse emulation, which unfortunately is not supported by the version from Remember.

(Until now only the "alternative" version from gamebase64 is known to support the CBM mouse, this is visible from the Taito logo in the title screen and the copyright reference to "Taito Armerica Corporation 1987". )

[edit] Boni

  • S = slows the ball down
  • C = ball sticks to the bat
  • E = bat gets big
  • D = three balls at the same time
  • L = laser on the bat
  • B = backdoor to the next level
  • P = extra life
  • every 20.000 points there is also an extra life

When you enter "Itsmybirthday" into the Highscore list after finishing a game, you have unlimited lives in the next game.

[edit] Critics

FXXS: "The classic per se, you should know this one. Graphics are good, sound is ok, but in the long run a bit monotonous. 8 points."
